Former Nease Quarterback Marcus Stokes Named Conference Offensive Player of the Week

Former Nease High School quarterback Marcus Stokes has been named the Gulf South Conference Offensive Player of the Week after a standout performance in West Florida University’s 40-28 win over Delta State on Saturday.

The St. Augustine native and redshirt freshman completed 17 of 21 passes for 326 yards, throwing three touchdowns. He also added 52 rushing yards and scored twice on the ground.

West Florida (3-2, 2-1 GSC) will face Chowan in North Carolina tomorrow, as Stokes looks to continue his strong play.

A highly rated recruit from Nease, Stokes originally received a scholarship offer from the University of Florida in 2022. However, the Gators withdrew their offer after a video surfaced of him rapping along to a song that included a racial slur, sparking national controversy.

Stokes took responsibility for his actions and has since worked to rebuild his football career with the Division II Argonauts.

Meanwhile, Nease High School remains undefeated at 5-0, including an exciting overtime win against longtime rival St. Augustine.
