Before social media, streaming, and viral YouTubers like Mr. Beast, American tweens spent their nights watching TV sitcoms. Shows like Silver Spoons, Diff’rent Strokes, and Family Ties were must-watch entertainment.
One of the most popular was ABC’s Growing Pains (1984–1992), starring Kirk Cameron. The show was a huge hit and became a major part of 1980s pop culture.
But at the peak of his fame, Cameron chose a different path. At 18, he became an evangelical Christian and stepped away from many mainstream acting roles, saying they didn’t align with his faith.
Now 54, Cameron is a husband, father of six, and a well-known public speaker. As part of his Strong Families, Strong Communities tour, he will visit Crosswater Christian Church in Nocatee on February 6. The event will also feature music by Matt Hammitt.
