Investigators from the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office are searching for more human remains in Flagler Estates this week after skeletal remains were found in February.

The investigation started on February 8, 2024, when a local resident came across the remains on private property near Cedar Ford Boulevard.

Officials believe this was an isolated case and say there is no threat to the community.

A team from Florida Gulf Coast University is helping with the search. This team includes a forensic pathologist, experts in human identification and trauma analysis, and several graduate students.

“There is no evidence of any danger to the community at this time,” the sheriff’s office said. “Detectives think this is an isolated case but can’t share more details yet to keep the investigation secure.”

Officials also said people in the area should expect to see a lot of law enforcement officers over the next few days.
