The mother of Carson Tucker, an 18-year-old from Jacksonville Beach, is speaking out after her son suffered serious facial injuries in an unprovoked attack—just one day before leaving for boot camp.
“He’s in a lot of pain and frustrated,” said Kristy MaGisty, Tucker’s mother. “His feelings are hurt because they weren’t doing anything wrong in the first place and were completely blindsided. I’m so grateful that he’s alive.”
Attack on 1st Street North
According to MaGisty, Tucker was saying goodbye to friends around 2 a.m. on Oct. 6 when a man approached their group and bumped into a 13-year-old boy. When the boy’s 17-year-old brother objected, the man punched him in the head.
Moments later, another attacker sucker-punched Tucker from behind, causing him to hit the ground face-first. The blow left him with a mangled mouth, lost teeth, and severe swelling.
Injuries and Delayed Boot Camp
- Tucker lost at least one tooth and may lose another.
- He is on a liquid diet due to his injuries.
- He has swelling around his eyes and a knot on the back of his head.
- His departure for boot camp was delayed until Oct. 21.
Tucker does not have health insurance, and his family could not afford additional tests to check for skull or jaw damage.
Family Seeks Justice
Tucker’s aunt, influencer Hillary Shuman, started a GoFundMe campaign that has raised nearly $7,000 to cover dental work, including a partial denture.
She has also pushed for an arrest online, saying she and MaGisty identified the attackers—two brothers—from photos taken by Tucker’s friends.
Police Investigation & Questions Raised
According to an Oct. 6 police report, a group of teens flagged down an officer, reporting that Tucker had been attacked and injured.
Tucker told police he was sucker-punched and fell. Witnesses saw the attacker flee in a white Dodge pickup truck toward a parking garage.
The officer encountered Tucker and his friends looking for the attackers and warned them against taking matters into their own hands.
Police identified a local bar staffer as a person of interest but later ruled him out. MaGisty is frustrated with the handling of the case, questioning why police didn’t ask her son to identify the attacker.
No Arrests Yet
As of now, no arrests have been made. The investigation is ongoing.
This attack happened near another violent Jacksonville Beach incident, where Seth Agwunobi, a former Temple University quarterback, allegedly threw Connolly Byrnes over a barricade, causing severe head injuries. Agwunobi is still facing felony battery charges.
Tucker’s family continues to demand accountability.
