Popular Asian street food chain Hawkers has filed for bankruptcy, but its owners say this isn’t the end.

The Orlando-based restaurant group, known for its lively atmosphere and bold flavors, says the move is part of a legal battle with a lender trying to take over the company.

What Happened?

Hawkers told the Orlando Weekly that the lender was “hyper-aggressive” and tried to seize control of the business. Filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy is meant to block that takeover and give the company time to restructure.

Despite the filing, all 15 locations across seven states will stay open, including Jacksonville’s Five Points and Neptune Beach spots.

Looking Ahead

The company originally partnered with the lender to fund a major national expansion, but the relationship turned sour. Now, Hawkers says bankruptcy will help them keep control and continue growing.

Hawkers is famous for recreating the bustling energy of Asian street markets, serving up dishes inspired by vendors across the continent.

Stay tuned for updates as the drama unfolds!
