A group of thieves traveled from Miami to St. Augustine to break into a local building supply company, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office (SJSO). The entire crime was caught on surveillance cameras.
Wearing all black, three suspects tried to pry open the gate at ABC Supply Company on Dobbs Road late last month. When that didn’t work, they climbed over a fence and forced their way inside.
Security footage shows them using an axe to break into a safe. Investigators say they also punched holes in the walls to move through the building. Eventually, they cut into the safe and stole $500 in cash and credit cards.
One of the holes they made damaged a water line, causing flooding that led to $30,000 in damage, police said.
The suspects left the scene in a black Ford F-150 before deputies arrived. Officers searched the area using K9 units and drones, but the thieves got away.
“Investigative efforts show the suspects drove from Miami to St. Johns County to commit the crime,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. The suspects have not yet been found.
