Odd Birds Cocktail Bar and Lounge owner Cesar Diaz has launched a hidden bar inside Odd Birds with a unique twist. His new spot, Charlotte 33 Speakeasy, is a secret bar tucked behind a bookcase.

“I realized we had a space behind the wall and thought, ‘We could do something special here,’” Diaz said. The name is a nod to Odd Birds’ original location at 33 Charlotte Street.

The speakeasy focuses on rare and unique spirits, including shochu from Japan, baijiu from China, cocuy from Venezuela, and special rums and bourbons. “We want to introduce guests to new flavors and keep things exciting,” Diaz said.

Diaz started his career in 2013 as a bartender at Ice Plant, known for creative cocktails. In 2015, he opened Odd Birds as a pop-up at 33 Charlotte Street. It became so popular that it turned into a permanent bar, attracting both locals and tourists with its handcrafted drinks and cozy atmosphere.

As Odd Birds grew, Diaz added food and dance nights, eventually moving to a larger space on Anastasia Island.

Charlotte 33 Speakeasy will host special events, including Tiki Santa and a Grinch-themed night during the Nights of Lights festival. In January, it will team up with the Edgar Allan Poe Speakeasy for a cocktail series inspired by the poet’s stories.

The venue is also available for private events like weddings and parties.
