There are three things you can count on in life—death, taxes, and New Yorkers complaining about Florida’s bagels.
But good news for bagel lovers! The famous H&H Bagels from Manhattan is opening a location in St. Johns County.
To serve the many New Yorkers who have moved to Florida, the company has chosen Jacksonville as one of its new locations.
CEO Jay Rushin told the Jacksonville Business Journal that he was impressed by how fast the city is growing.
“I think a lot of people see the need for good bagels there,” he said. “There are tons of New Yorkers who have moved down. Driving around with local real estate brokers, I saw places already planned for thousands of new homes.”
The St. Johns location, at 3735 Longleaf Pine Parkway, is expected to open in 2025, according to a company representative.
H&H Bagels, which appeared in Seinfeld and Sex and the City, is also opening locations in Boca Raton and Tampa.
Fans of Seinfeld might remember when Kramer went on a 12-year strike against the bagel shop because of a pay dispute—and because they wouldn’t give him time off for Festivus.
H&H Bagels was founded in 1972 by Helmer Toro and his brother-in-law Hector Hernandez. The company gained national attention during the pandemic when online orders skyrocketed by 500%, helping fuel its expansion across the country.
