St. Johns County is getting ready for the grand opening of its new Bass Pro Shops, and an official date will be announced soon.

The outdoor retail giant recently held a two-day hiring event at its upcoming store on World Commerce Parkway. The company says it will reveal the store’s opening date in the near future.

The new location will employ over 100 people and sell a variety of outdoor equipment and clothing. Shoppers can expect everything from fishing and camping gear to hiking and backpacking supplies.

Spanning 100,000 square feet, the store will also offer ATVs, boats, and a huge selection of aquarium fish.

Like other Bass Pro Shops, the St. Johns County location will feature detailed murals of local wildlife, antique decorations, and mounted animals to create a unique shopping experience.

This will be the company’s 13th store in Florida, adding to locations in Daytona and Gainesville.

“We are very excited to open this new store and continue building our relationship with Florida’s outdoor enthusiasts,” said Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny Morris in a 2023 press release. “Florida is an incredible state for fishing, hunting, and outdoor activities. This store will help families and outdoor lovers across the First Coast enjoy nature even more.”

Morris started the business in 1972 when he was just 24 years old, selling fishing tackle from his father’s bait shop in Springfield, Missouri. Two years later, he launched his first fishing gear catalog, and the company has been growing ever since.
