Longtime Action News Jax meteorologist and morning traffic anchor Marithza Ross is starting a new chapter. After nearly a decade on TV, she’s stepping into her new role as executive director of the St. Johns County Parks Foundation.
“I’m really passionate about where we live and all the recreational opportunities we have,” Ross said. “I want to help enhance them.”
Ross will leave Action News Jax at the end of December and has already begun revitalizing the foundation, updating its website and social media while expanding outreach efforts.

What Does the Foundation Do?
St. Johns County adopted the parks foundation model in 2020, allowing the nonprofit to:
- Secure grants
- Accept land donations
- Seek sponsorships
- Support park projects
Ross said the foundation can help fund everything from new parks to small improvements like installing a pickleball racket holder.
Past Projects
Some of the foundation’s recent work includes:
- Relocating the historic Canright House, a Civil Rights-era landmark
- Accepting a land donation at Longleaf Pine and Greenbriar Road for future recreation
As an outdoor enthusiast and pickleball fan, Ross says her new role is a perfect fit—and won’t require a 2:45 a.m. wake-up call!

Marithza Ross’ Favorite Local Spots
- Treaty Park – Where she first played pickleball
- St. Augustine Beach – “Icee machine and hotdogs at the pier shop… Need I say more?”
- Swing Playground in St. Augustine – “It’s just such a beautiful playscape.”
- Nocatee Paddle Launch – “The trees, the marsh, and river are so peaceful.”
Ross is excited for this next adventure and can’t wait to make a lasting impact on St. Johns County’s parks and recreation.
