A young man from Jacksonville Beach was badly hurt in an unprovoked attack just one day before leaving for boot camp, his family said in a GoFundMe post asking for support.
Carson Tucker was walking near a pier with friends to take pictures when two men approached them from behind. Without warning, one of the men punched Tucker in the back of the head, knocking him to the ground. He hit his head on the concrete, lost a tooth, and suffered serious injuries, the post said.
Another person in Tucker’s group was also pushed to the ground.
Calling the attack “disgusting and horrific,” Tucker’s aunt wrote that he now has lasting damage to his face, which could affect his future career.
“He has a long road ahead with surgery and new teeth,” she wrote. “He saved up $1,000, but his insurance doesn’t start until he enters boot camp.”
The family asked the community to report any information about the attackers to the police.
“While we try to find these people so justice can be served, we ask for your help,” she wrote.
The GoFundMe campaign has raised over $6,000 as of Saturday morning.
“Carson is one of the kindest people I know and just wants a better future,” his aunt said. “He is devastated and doesn’t understand why this happened. We want to surround him with support.”
This attack happened nearly two months after another Jacksonville Beach man, Connolly Byrnes, suffered serious head injuries after being thrown into a barricade outside Mango’s Beach Bar.
Seth Agwunobi, the man accused in that case, is now facing a felony battery charge.
