A fisherman on Anastasia Island made an unbelievable catch when he reeled in a great white shark—without even needing a boat.

Alberto Vanegas, a fisherman from Fernandina Beach, was on the shore looking for bull sharks when he saw something unusual in the water.

“Something’s jumping out there,” Vanegas said as his fishing line started spinning wildly.

Using a drone, he had dropped a tuna head about 400 feet into the ocean. Moments later, he found himself locked in a tough 30-minute battle. With help from a friend, he finally pulled a massive 9-to-10-foot great white shark onto the sand.

“Biologists, researchers, and locals are all shocked that this apex predator was caught from the beach,” Vanegas shared in a Facebook post. He also said it was the first time a great white had ever been successfully caught from Florida’s east coast shore.

Excited about his achievement, Vanegas said he remains committed to land-based shark fishing and protecting these incredible animals.

People online were amazed by the catch, congratulating Vanegas on the once-in-a-lifetime moment.

After capturing some unforgettable memories, the fishermen carefully pulled the great white back into the water, where it swam off into the deep.
