Cathy Dowdy, a beloved mother from Brunswick, Georgia, remains in critical condition at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville after nearly drowning earlier this month while trying to save a child in distress at Ponte Vedra Beach.

According to a GoFundMe post, Dowdy was pulled from the water by a lifeguard, who administered life-saving measures before emergency crews arrived.

Her daughter, Christina Dowdy, shared an emotional plea on Facebook, asking for prayers:

“Please pray for my mama. She is a fighter, but we are going to need all the prayers we can get.”

Community Rallies for Support

The GoFundMe campaign has raised nearly $50,000 to help Dowdy’s family with expenses while they stay by her side in Jacksonville.

The fundraiser states:

“The money raised will help cover hotel rooms, possible long-term lodging, food, and gas. Above all, we ask you to continue to PRAY for a full recovery.”

Dowdy, described in messages as a dedicated teacher, has received an outpouring of support from friends, former students, and community members who are hoping for her recovery.
