The popular casual burrito trend that started in California is finally making its way to St. Johns County.
Dank Burrito, a North Carolina-based chain, is opening its first Florida location at the Shoppes of Valley Ridge in Ponte Vedra, according to the Jacksonville Daily Record. The restaurant has applied for permits to open a 2,450-square-foot eatery, making it the chain’s sixth location overall.
From Food Truck to Restaurant Chain
Founder Clarke Merrell started Dank Burrito as a food truck in 2014 after growing up working in his father’s restaurant. The concept quickly took off, leading to the first sit-down restaurant in Morehead, North Carolina, in 2015.
A Unique Burrito Experience
Unlike traditional burrito spots, Dank Burrito’s menu goes beyond the usual carne asada and grilled chicken options. The restaurant offers bold flavors like:
- Jerk Chicken
- Honey Truffle Buffalo Shrimp
- Pork Belly
- Teriyaki Chicken
They also serve vegetarian burritos, tacos, salads, bowls, and a kids’ menu.
Dank Burrito describes itself as “classic but never basic, irreverent but never casual.”
