Chipotle is bringing its popular Mexican-style burritos, tacos, and bowls to Beachwalk in St. Johns County. The fast-casual chain has received approval to build a 2,500-square-foot restaurant on Beachwalk Shore Drive, near County Road 210.

The new location will offer on-site parking and a drive-thru for added convenience.

Chipotle’s Growth Story

Chipotle has grown rapidly since Steve Ells opened the first location in Denver in 1993. His goal was to sell 107 burritos a day to turn a profit—but demand quickly skyrocketed, with sales exceeding 1,000 burritos daily.

Thanks to early investment from McDonald’s, Chipotle expanded nationwide and went public in 2006. The company now plans to open more locations in smaller towns, aiming to compete with Applebee’s and traditional fast-food chains, according to The Wall Street Journal.
