Bass Pro Shops is set to inaugurate its expansive 100,000-square-foot Outdoor World in St. Augustine on November 20th, with an “Evening for Conservation” that promises to be a landmark event. This grand opening transcends a typical retail launch, featuring a curated roster of celebrities, engaging activities, and a strong commitment to local conservation.
The event will draw notable figures from the angling and outdoor recreation communities, including legendary fishermen Bill Dance, Jimmy Houston, and Roland Martin. Country music artist Tim Dugger will provide live entertainment at 5 p.m., preceding the official ribbon-cutting ceremony at 6 p.m. Additional prominent guests include drag racing icon Darrell Gwynn, Marine Corps veteran and Emmy-winning host Ronnie Green, and outdoor lifestyle personality Eva Shockey.

A focal point of the new location is a 12,000-gallon aquarium, showcasing the diverse aquatic life native to the region. The interior design will feature large-scale murals depicting Florida’s natural landscapes, complemented by displays of indigenous wildlife, such as alligators and black bears, and a striking 20-foot replica of a great white shark.
In a demonstration of corporate social responsibility, Bass Pro Shops will donate 20% of all opening night sales to support local conservation initiatives and hurricane relief efforts. Attendees can also anticipate a variety of giveaways, including branded T-shirts and trucker hats, as well as a sweepstakes offering a $500 gift card.

The store will offer an extensive selection of outdoor merchandise, ranging from high-performance boats and camping equipment to off-road vehicles. This St. Augustine location marks the company’s 13th store in Florida, joining existing establishments in Daytona and Gainesville.
“We are very excited to announce this new location and continue to strengthen our relationship with the sportsmen and women of Florida,” stated Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny Morris in a 2023 press release. “We love the great state of Florida and all of the world-class fishing, hunting and outdoor recreation opportunities it provides. This new store will make it easier for people and families throughout the First Coast region to spend time together in the great outdoors.”
Johnny Morris’s journey began in 1972, when he started selling fishing tackle from his father’s bait shop in Springfield, Missouri. By 1974, he had produced his first fishing gear catalog, laying the foundation for the company’s subsequent growth and expansion.
