Conservative commentator Ann Coulter criticized former President Donald Trump on Saturday, claiming that a “crime wave” began during his presidency as he “sat around tweeting.”
Coulter was a longtime Trump fan, even writing the book In Trump We Trust: E Pluribus Awesome! in 2016. However, the right-wing commentator has since split with the former president, becoming one of his most outspoken GOP detractors.
Since then, the two have traded barbs, with Trump referring to Coulter as a “wacky nut job” and “unbearably crazy,” and Coulter responding that Trump is a “gigantic baby.”
In response to a social media post by former Trump administration employee Sebastian Gorka on Saturday, Coulter slammed the former president for his stance on crime prevention.
Gorka, who served as the president’s deputy assistant for seven months in 2017, posted a list of things that he claims would not have happened under Trump, who is the frontrunner in the GOP presidential primary in 2024, in a Saturday social media post.
“Ukraine’s War” Israel is at war. 8 million illegal immigrants 110,000 overdoses every year Crimewaves across the United States NONE of this would have occurred under President Trump,” Gorka wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
In response to his article, Coulter stated that the “crime wave” in the United States began during the MAGA leader’s presidency.
“The US crime wave began under Trump — as he sat around tweeting’LAW & ORDER,'” Coulter wrote on X. ” He pushed the pro criminal first step act through. In his first debate with Biden, he boasted about releasing prisoners.”
The conservative commentator, who also criticized the former president over crime in the United States in a podcast interview last week, previously stated that his efforts amounted to little more than tweeting about “LAW AND ORDER” on social media.
Coulter stated on the PBD Podcast on Thursday that Trump was instead focused on “releasing criminals” after signing the First Step Act, a 2018 criminal justice reform measure that allows some nonviolent drug offenders to be released early.
She also criticized Trump’s record on public safety, claiming that he unleashed “all the criminals.”
“What exactly did Trump do?” “He tweeted all caps, LAW AND ORDER,” she said on Thursday. “Do you remember what he said in the first debate with [President] Joe Biden?” … ‘You dubbed them super-predators, and I’m freeing people.’… He’s letting criminals go. Do you want to feel secure? Donald Trump is not your man.”
