Surveillance footage captured the moment Seth Agwunobi, a former Temple University quarterback, threw 21-year-old Connolly Byrnes over a barricade outside Mango’s Beach Bar in Jacksonville Beach last August.

Serious Head Injuries

Byrnes landed on his head, suffering severe head trauma. According to his family, doctors had to remove part of his skull to relieve brain pressure. He was initially unable to breathe on his own or speak but has since made progress in a rehabilitation facility, where he is expected to stay for months.

What Led to the Incident?

Witnesses told police that Byrnes rejected Agwunobi’s advances earlier that night. Agwunobi, who had been drinking, later claimed that he was called a slur, though it’s unclear who made the remark or when.

The video shows Agwunobi, wearing a white T-shirt, standing near Byrnes before picking him up and throwing him over the railing. After Byrnes hit the ground, security staff and bystanders rushed to help as he lay motionless on the wet concrete.

Legal Consequences

Agwunobi, the son of former Florida Secretary of Health John Agwunobi, is now facing a felony battery charge. He was released on bail, and his attorney, Jessica Goldsborough, has not commented on the case.

Byrnes’ family remains uncertain about his long-term recovery but is hopeful as he continues to regain basic functions.
