The spirit of old Florida will come alive at the Hastings Hoedown, a lively celebration of the town’s deep farming roots and Southern country culture.

Kicking off at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, at Good Earth Farms in Federal Point, the event will feature square dancing, a bluegrass band, BBQ, corn hole, and the highlight of the night—a Southern Pound Cake Bake-Off.

“It’s a perfect mix of Southern tradition and community spirit, all in support of Hastings Main Street revitalization efforts,” organizers said.

Local band Skin & Bonz will bring a mix of bluegrass and old-time string music, encouraging attendees to get up, dance, and enjoy the festive atmosphere.

The pound cake competition will put local bakers to the test, with judges rating their cakes on taste, texture, and how well they stick to traditional recipes.

So, don’t expect any organic mango in the winning cake.

“This event isn’t just a competition—it’s a celebration of our local food heritage,” organizers said. “Share your recipes, swap stories, and see if your pound cake takes home the top prize!”

Event planners have thought of everything, including the big Florida–Florida State football game happening the same day. TVs and cozy seating will be set up so fans can keep an eye on the action while enjoying their BBQ.
