The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has submitted plans to build a 16,400-square-foot chapel in Ponte Vedra, The Citizen has learned.
According to county records, the church wants to develop a chapel and meetinghouse on a 6.5-acre property at 2755 Palm Valley Road, located between the Davis Park turnoff and the Palm Valley Bridge.
Plans also include 227 parking spaces, as shown in documents submitted for a pre-application.
The land is currently vacant, according to the filing.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, based in Salt Lake City, Utah, is the applicant. Dorothy Shupe of Sketch Architecture, an Arizona-based firm, is listed as the church’s representative on the application.
The LDS Church has members worldwide, with 17 million followers globally and nearly 7 million in the U.S.
Second LDS Church in St. Johns County
If approved, this would be the second LDS church in St. Johns County, with the first located in St. Augustine.
